Vested Interest

vested two, originally uploaded by Hungover in Heels.

Kind of cooky outfit today, but it was very warm out and I wanted something comfy to walk the dog, go grocery shopping and work in a cafe.

The blog has suffered due to wedding activities. Sorry about that. I am having a week long family visit for Turkey Day then I will get back on track.

Shopping Pick: Alameda Flea Market

Alameda Flea Market, originally uploaded by Hungover in Heels.

Chockablock with used and Antique goods the Alameda Flea Market is a must. My fiancé and I spent a lovely day trying on clothes, debating on house goods, and eating really-bad-for-you food from street carts.

Warning: It is huge and there are such varied objects that it is probably for the best if you head in having an idea of what you are looking for. Also: comfortable shoes.

The next one is tomorrow so all of you Bay Area folks who have missed out, now’s your chance.

Last month returned home with a lovely set of wide vintage frames and an adorable “V” necklace made of a typewriter key.

Weekend wrap up

In-laws birthday, originally uploaded by Hungover in Heels.

Haven't posted in a bit so thought I would do a quick round up of everything I wore this weekend.

I really liked this first outfit, I wish I had a few more pics of it, oh well. I wore it for a birthday celebration at a steak house for my (soon-to-be) Father-in-law.
I had the smallest cut of meat and was still stuffed. I did start the night off with my favorite drink of choice. Dirty, Ketel One, martinini: up.

Saturday was a bit of a lazy day. Sitting around the apartment and recovering from the night before. To get some sun, my partner and I took our dog for a walk in the park, stopping for coffee on the way, natch.

Sunday was an amazing weather day for SF. We decided to take a trip over to Chrissy field and walk along the bay.

Lost in the fire, gained in the flood

Thursday night I went to see a favorite band of mine and was completely blow away by the opener: the Mynabirds. I had never heard of them before but thier music was a terrific blend of soul and retro pop .I was smitten. They also had such adorable style. I wish I had a camera with me, but alas it was empty of charge. You will have to settle for some promo shots and a song link. Lovely though, no?

And cause it's what I think I am supposed to do here. This is what I wore to the show:

Ny & Co. Dress, Gap tshirt, One Star vest.

Friday August 3rd

Friday August 3rd, originally uploaded by Hungover in Heels.

Aren’t the walls delicious? The muted tones of the restaurant exploded into this lemon lime combo when I entered the ladies. I had to share with you, reader. I hesitated on posting as the scratched mirror graffiti creates weird patterns on my face But it’s kind of fun anyway.

The restaurant we were at was in Japantown. We were having a plate of delicious tuna rolls covered in hot sauce and a plate of sashimi. My fiancé also ordered a bowl katsu-don, but I was full after the rolls so I sipped the Nigori as we waited.

Friday August 3rd

Before that we had gone to a hotel bar for happy hour. It was a date night, and we both thought it would be fun to start the evening with a few drinks. The special on beer was $3.00 so we tried the only one on tap we didn’t know. It was a Black Butte Porter, tasty and nice, but light tasting for a porter. If you like it rich you should get something else. I adored the hint of chocolate at the finish.

Originally I had planned on pairing the black lace neck blouse with a pleated skirt. Before my fiancé arrived to pick me up I took our Shih Tzu for a walk and the wind almost knocked us both over. It was all I could do to keep the leash in my hand and keep my skirt down with the other. I might have given some passersby’s a show. I hope not.

Friday August 3rd

Back upstairs I switched into a pair of GAP always Skinny jeans. They don’t blow around so much.

Friday August 3rd

We decided to end the evening with some Karaoke. It was close enough and we were both feeling a little tight. I had never seen the place so empty, but usually I am there later than 9:00. They checked us into a small room at the end of the hall furthest from the front desk. Did they know about our singing?

We punched in song after song pushing just passed the hour mark, ending with a duet of “Don’t Stop Believing.” Yes, we both love Glee.

Tisci and Lea

The new 'W' has a a fun article on Riccardo Tisci, Givenchy’s 36-year-old artistic director. It talks a lot about his life and centers on his use of androgynous or gender fluid inspiration and style. Specifically it mentions LEA T his transgendered assistant and model who appeared in the Fall runway shows and add campaign.

There has been much attention on Lea T since then. A long time friend of Tisci she says, "I met Riccardo Tisci who had just graduated from Central St Martins. Little by little, we became friends. One night, he encouraged me to wear heels to a party. We went shopping for these drag queen high heels and bleached my eyebrows. It was a revelation." Aww, sort of cure. Lea is 28, has lived full time for awhile and is considering having SRS surgery soon.

Here are is a link to the W article about Tisci.

Mission Statement

Hi There!

One night while sorting through hangers of dresses I was struck with the idea that I am blessed and lucky and should probably tell people about it. I ought to share my good fortune, give people hope, show people that dreams can come true, and to find other people like me who are on the same path. These all seemed like worthwhile, noble, and necessary things.

It had occurred to me while I was getting ready for a date. I did not know where I was going as my partner had said only, “W will be walking there so wear shoes somewhat comfortable and dress a bit whimsical.”

Reader, I had no idea what this meant but immediately started thinking of outfits for the evening. The easy part was the shoes. I would wear my mary janes with the one and half inch heels. They were cute enough for date night but not too painful for walking. The rest was more difficult to figure out.

Two frocks, a skirt, and top lay on the bed discarded after trying them on and deciding they were either too formal or too serious. I shifted more dresses from the recess of the closet and inspected them. They were not quite right. Back in the closet they go. That is when the idea struck me. I was choosing which dress to wear for a date and it had not even occurred to me that I shouldn’t, couldn’t, or wouldn’t wear a dress, or skirt, or heels.

This elation hit me so hard I sat down. How did I not notice every day how lucky I was to be able to do that? When I was young I dreamed of being able to wear the pretty gowns I saw on TV or in magazines. I envied my sisters and girlfriends the clothes they wore, the magic they carried with them at all times. The special aura that was female. I ached from the desire to be one of them, even for a single day. Here I was, years later, living as a woman and too often overlooking how amazing an accomplishment that was.I knew I had to write something about it.

Not just for you reader, but for myself as well. The details should not go unnoticed. I want to be honest about this experience of being able to be a lady when I did not start out that way. This blog is an attempt to be my reminder of being so happy about it every single day. We should all be so lucky to live our dreams enough that we forget they are our dreams. Time to pay attention.
